Shopping and Dining
Even in an area renowned for its amazing sunsets, the view from the lake-side tables at The Oasis on Lake Travis can’t be beat. Originally founded as a resort town in the early 1960’s, Lakeway is now an affluent suburban city scale Tex-Mex, may give it a run for its money on occasion. Recent growth in the area has led to the construction of numerous new shopping centers, including the well-stocked Hill Country Galleria. Enjoy relaxing times at Milk + Honey Spa, catch a movie at Cinemark, pick up your sporting equipment at Dick’s Sporting Goods, supply your party drinks at Twin Liquors or dress the family at Dillards. A great new restaurant in the Galleria is Wyland’s Ocean Blue.
Parks and Recreation
One of the best things about living in Lakeway is the city’s close proximity to Lake Travis. A regional favorite for boating, skiing, and swimming and camping, Lake Travis is one of the largest and cleanest lakes in the state. Need to rent a boat or a jet ski? Head over to the Lakeway Marina, Lake Travis’s one-stop-shop for a day on the lake. Not a water person? Check out one of the scenic golf courses in the area, such as the Yaupon Course or Live Oak Course in Lakeway or Falconhead just down the road. Lakeway residents also can play tennis, take a walk along the picturesque greenbelt trails, or play with the kids in one of the city parks.
Living
Families, empty-nesters and retirees make up the approximately 11,500 people who call Lakeway home and another 3,000 that own second homes. Large lots, quality homes and nightly deer sightings are just a few of this beautiful city’s many perks. Retirees or older married couples may enjoy a home on the lake or a single family home abutting the golf course. Gated communities are an area staple, and a number of quality family homes can be found surrounding the Lakeway schools. Mean 2009 detached home price was $481,491. Townhouses and condos can be found for around $200,000.
Schools, Health, Transportation
The City of Lakeway is served by the LakeTravis Independent School District, an “Exemplary” district. There are five public elementary schools, two public middle schools, and one public high school in the area. Graduating students are within just a few miles of Texas’ most popular institution of higher education: The University of Texas at Austin. Health-conscious residents will feel right at home I Lakeway with its many fitness centers, yoga and Pilates facilities, spas and medical centers. The Seton Health Center Lakeway and the Lake Travis Medical Center provide health care services to the area’s residents. There is an air of excitement about the Lakeway Regional Medical Center that is due to open Phase I with 150 beds in April of 2012. Phase II will start followed by Phase III which will bring the bed count to 450.
